George Washington's Tech Guy, Yes He had One! Too!
Dr. Benjamin Franklin
Drawing by Lorraine Strieby
President George Washington was a lot like President Donald Trump. They are known to have a significant presence and depend on some talented aides. Trump depends on Musk and his tech crew and Washington depended on the first electrical engineer, Dr. Benjamin Franklin (Honorary degree from Oxford University, England). Whoa! What do I mean by this.
Although Franklin wasn't the first person to discover electricity, he did invent the lightning rod that protected structures here and world wide from burning down when hit by lightning.
Let me explain, Franklin reminds me of Elon Musk, both were/are geniuses, and in Franklin's case because he did scientific mapping of the Gulf Stream while sailing to and from England, he was Washington's engineer so to speak, in fact he is sometimes referred to as the first electrical engineer, now we could refer to him as a" tech guy!" And, who does that remind us of?
Another scientific accomplishment by Franklin: in astronomy he is known for his study of the transit of Venus around the Sun.
Besides being a scientist he was called upon by Washington and others to help the new colonies and later help win the American Revolution, a little like our Government aide too. You can find out how Franklin accomplished winning the American Revolution by reading my book, Why is a Spy Called a Mole?
